Welcome to the Aberdeen Formation Evaluation Society - a chapter of the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts (SPWLA).

We have only just started the 2011/2012 season with our Annual General Meeting which took place at the Aberdeen Art Gallery on 4th October 2011. Jim White of Schlumberger was the key note speaker and gave a review of his 35 year career first as a field engineer in the mid 70’s in Iran through to "petrophysics guru" of the present day. Many of the 50+ audience were MSc students just starting their careers in petrophysics and they greatly enjoyed Jim’s talk which was punctuated with insights, anecdotes and some amusing photos which both entertained and educated. There were a number of older, greyer heads in the audience which nodded in agreement when recalling the minimal HSE rules, etc, of the 1970’s which Jim eloquently described.

The committee of the Aberdeen formation Evaluation society would also like to thank all the sponsors and attendees of the 10th AFES Annual Charity Quiz 2011. We managed to raise almost £2000 which will be donated to Aberdeen Children’s Hospital ARCHIE fund.
